YouTube is the most successful video platform in the world thanks to its variety of content and wide availability on all types of devices.

Among the devices on which YouTube is available via a dedicated application, we find Smart TVs. However, currently some YouTube users are facing issues on this platform.

Specifically, the YouTube app interface suddenly displays Chinese characters on some Smart TVs for no apparent reason (1, 2, 34, 5, 6, 7, 8).

YouTube app for smart TV randomly displaying Chinese characters

According to several reports, the YouTube app for Smart TV units has started displaying Chinese characters randomly in the user interface.

Samsung TV YouTube app – Chinese characters

I just turned on my TV and noticed that there are Chinese characters on the YouTube app. The language is set to English and is in English, but various things are in Chinese but with English labels. For example, the play button is in Chinese but displays the game below the characters. Any idea why this can happen?

Some users point out that the characters can also include other languages and strange icons.

Turn off the TV

Remove the power cable, wait a few seconds, and plug it back in (I imagine waiting a few minutes for it to turn off completely would also do the trick)

Turn on and reinstall YouTube.
